Cablik Enterprises is among several architects and builders who will open our doors for an informal social event at our office.  Stop by to meet our team, see examples of our Atlanta modern homes.  Light beverages and appetizers provided.

Come out to see 2012′s best Atlanta modern homes!   Cablik Enterprises is showcasing two of our recently built Atlanta modern homes on this year’s tour.  Come see the Justice-Kohlsdorf Residence, and the La France Residence.

The Atlanta modern home presence is strong and growing each year.   These two modern homes showcase the different styles that can be achieved with a new modern home.

The home, called Arrowhead, was designed by Robert Green, and build in 1962  in the Amberwood subdivision.  It is the crown jewel of MCM in Atlanta.    The main home is almost 4000 square feet, and there is a detached garage/game room overlooking an incredible pool, a separate pool house, with sauna, changing room, full bath and full kitchen, and a third dwelling that is a two story home with two additional bedrooms, living room and stubbed for bath.

The lot is huge – its 179 across the front by 200 deep.  It’s almost pie shaped, so the rear lot line is 252.     The interior ceilings are tidewater red aspen wood, and the floors are the original red terrazzo.

The current owners replaced the expensive systems – all new HVAC, new roof, updated electrical.  They also restored a lot of the interior back to the way it looked in 1962.  The kitchen has been updated – a HUGE Viking range, and new granite countertops.  That said, there is a fair amount of cosmetic work that will be needed on exterior woodwork and trim, and some updating will need to be done to the bathrooms as well.   We will list it at $1.3M.   I am reaching out to the Modern Community in Atlanta first, before listing it on the open market.

The Justice – Kohlsdorf Residence:  Dencity (Architect) and Cablik Enterprises (Builder)

This new modern home is located in Sandy Springs overlooking a private lake.  The homeowners wanted a modern, yet warm home, with ample room for entertaining.  The modern home is totally custom, with all interior selections made by the homeowner, which allow both light and dark materials to contrast each other.  The exterior materials include Egyptian limestone, cypress panels, and aged steel panels.  The interiors feature a gracious entertaining area with numerous outdoor decks,  a guest suite overlooking vertical gardens, a wine cellar, and much more.

The construction process featured many sustainable features, and the home achieved Earthcraft and Energy Star certification in 2011.

The La France Residence: West Architecture Studios (Architect) and Cablik Enterprises (Builder)

The La France Residence is a custom-built modern home constructed as an infill project in Atlanta’s Edgewood neighborhood.  Despite the open floorplan and significant cantilevers, no structural steel was required, and the home’s unique exterior features 6 distinct materials.

This Atlanta modern home features a significant indoor-outdoor living component, with a large outdoor covered patio adjoined to the living room with a dramatic 11′ x 14′ sliding door.  The upstairs private areas feature two strategically-positioned rooftop decks, and a master bath with soaking tub and fireplace.

The home was built sustainably and achieved Earthcraft certification in 2012.

Best Green Home: The Barksdale Residence

This new modern home in Atlanta achieved a plethora of green building certifications.  It is the first LEED-Silver home in the City of Atlanta, and also achieved Energy Star certification as well as Earthcraft certification.  The home is an excellent example of smart use of limited natural resources including energy and water.

Just a few of the home’s sustainable features include low-e windows, appropriately-sized HVAC systems, Icynene insulation, tankless hot water heaters, very high-efficiency bath fixtures, ventilation controls  per room, local, non-invasive landscaping, sustainable and renewable materials, and recycled construction waste.

The home went above and beyond typical “green” construction, by adding truly sustainable features including an underground cistern to collect rainwater for irrigation, plus an electric plug for a future electric car.  The home’s intown Atlanta location is very close to many employment,retail, and recreation opportunities, thus decreasing the need for automobile use.

Consistent with the LEED program, the homeowners were provided with a comprehensive owners manual, full of all product manuals and other information related to the sustainable features of their home.  This durable resource can be referenced and passed on to the next homeowners upon the home’s sale.

Best Green Renovation: The St. Louis Residence

This renovation began as a 1-story 1920′s home, and ended as a two-story Earthcraft-renovated home with a finished attic that is used as a new master suite.  The home originally featured single-pane windows and insufficient loose fill insulation in the attic floor.  The home’s heating and cooling systems were insufficient to meet the demand created by the house.  Large amounts of air leakage were identified from various places in the home.

Cablik performed an Earthcraft renovation which addressed these issues, with strategies including reinsulating HVAC ducts, insulating water pipes, performing proper air sealing, using low-VOC paints, stains, and finishes, and recycling construction waste.

This home is an excellent example of how a homeowner can adapt their current home to better fit their needs, while also incorporating sustainability practices into the buildout.  Sustainability can be achieved even if the original home may not have been built to meet a sustainability program’s criteria.  As a result of the sustainable renovation, the homeowners will save significantly on their HVAC bills, and they will have a healthier lifestyle.

Picasso to Warhol will present approximately 100 works of art created by 14 of the most iconic artists from the 20th century: Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Constantin Brancusi, Piet Mondrian, Fernand Léger, Marcel Duchamp, Giorgio De Chirico, Joan Miró, Romare Bearden, Alexander Calder, Jackson Pollock, Louise Bourgeois, Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol. The exhibition will be one of the largest concentrations of modern art masterpieces to ever be exhibited in the southeastern United States.

The achievements of these pioneers of modern art will be presented in depth, exploring each artist’s stylistic development and highlighting their role in the most important artistic developments of the twentieth century, including the invention of Cubism, the emergence of abstraction and the development of Surrealism.

Highlights of the exhibition include: Henri Matisse’s Dance (I), 1909; Pablo Picasso’s Girl Before a Mirror, 1932, and Night Fishing at Antibes, 1939; Jasper Johns’s Map, 1961; Andy Warhol’s Self-Portrait, 1966; Constantin Brancusi’s Bird in Space, 1928; and Jackson Pollock’s, Number 1A, 1948.

The exhibit runs now through April 29, 2012.

This Event will be upstair in the Event Space “The Marianna”.
The Wrecking Bar Brewpub is located in the basement of this historic structure that was neglected and vandalized over the last five years. The restoration of this building included restoring the original stained glass transoms, reusing the bricks from the coal room in the basement, and repainting the exterior the original colors of the house. Much of this newly renovated space has maintained the historic values of the building and has reused much of the salvaged materials.
