2012 Modern Atlanta Home Tour

The 2012 Modern Atlanta Home Tour has been announced!  This year’s tour will take place on June 9-10, 2012, and is the culmination of the preceding Modern Atlanta Week.  As a consistent participant in the modern home tour in Atlanta, we are proud to have two completed new modern homes on the tour this year:

The Justice – Kohlsdorf Residence:  Dencity (Architect) and Cablik Enterprises (Builder)

This new modern home is located in Sandy Springs overlooking a private lake.  The homeowners wanted a modern, yet warm home, with ample room for entertaining.  The modern home is totally custom, with all interior selections made by the homeowner, which allow both light and dark materials to contrast each other.  The exterior materials include Egyptian limestone, cypress panels, and aged steel panels.  The interiors feature a gracious entertaining area with numerous outdoor decks,  a guest suite overlooking vertical gardens, a wine cellar, and much more.

The construction process featured many sustainable features, and the home achieved Earthcraft and Energy Star certification in 2011.

The La France Residence: West Architecture Studios (Architect) and Cablik Enterprises (Builder)

The La France Residence is a custom-built modern home constructed as an infill project in Atlanta’s Edgewood neighborhood.  Despite the open floorplan and significant cantilevers, no structural steel was required, and the home’s unique exterior features 6 distinct materials.

This Atlanta modern home features a significant indoor-outdoor living component, with a large outdoor covered patio adjoined to the living room with a dramatic 11′ x 14′ sliding door.  The upstairs private areas feature two strategically-positioned rooftop decks, and a master bath with soaking tub and fireplace.

The home was built sustainably and achieved Earthcraft certification in 2012.

Complete information about the tour, as well as information on buying tickets, can be found at Modern Atlanta.

We hope to see you on the tour!!

Check out our under-construction LaFrance Residence on the Modern Tour!

Curious about the details of how new modern homes are built?  Come see the LaFrance Residence, which will be on display on this year’s Modern Atlanta Home Tour,  June 11th and 12th.   This is one of many homes on the tour, and for modern home fans, this event is not to be missed!  Buy tickets at, and we will see you on the tour!

As mentioned, the home is currently under construction, giving you the opportunity to see construction techniques before all the interiors are completed.    Some of the home’s current photos are shown here  (check out that fantastic stucco work!)

This home was designed by Scott West of West Architecture.  For more details about the home, visit the home’s description for LaFrance Residence on our Cablik Modern Dwellings page.

Mid century modern!

Be sure to stop by the Cablik Residence on the Modern Home Tour of Homes, on June 10 and 11.  As an extra feature, this mid century modern renovation will feature mid century modern furniture by City Issue.  Look for City Issue’s furniture, as well as accessories like lamps, side tables, vases, and other art.  If you love mid century modern design, this home is not to be missed!  Tickets for the Modern Home Tour are available at Modern Atlanta.

Cablik building the “Design is Material” exhibit for Modern Atlanta week

2011 Modern Atlanta Week is only one month away!  Having participated in the event for several years, we can tell you this is THE year’s best event for modern design and Atlanta modern home enthusiasts.  This year, Cablik Enterprises is participating more than ever.   In working with the event’s coordinator, we have volunteered to help with the week’s Launch Party, held on Tuesday, June 7th.  The Launch Party will feature an exhibit entitled Design Is MATERIAL, which will feature a collection of various building materials that are often used in modern home construction.  Cablik Enterprises will be assisting Modern Atlanta with the construction of the actual wall used in this exhibit.

Curated by Matteo Caimi, MA Director of Architecture & Design, Design Is MATERIAL makes its inaugural debut in Atlanta on launch night in the form of a micro-exhibition/installation. Caimi describes Design Is MATERIAL as “… a curator’s dream. I want this exhibition to inspire visitors and open minds to other possibilities. Selecting materials, systems, and finishings are extremely important considerations in architecture and design, and we think Design Is MATERIAL will aid in making that process easy, informative yet fun, and a be rich experience come launch night. Design Is Material has a bright future in the United States, and each year Atlanta will benefit from the excitement to come.”

At first in exhibition-form, and in time, Design Is MATERIAL will gradually grow in depth and in scale, introducing the future, innovation, and a whole new way of imaging projects and the built environment, created especially for the trade and materials industry. The public is encouraged to witness firsthand this one of a kind micro-exhibition.  From the world’s smallest mosiac tile made of porcelain, acoustic wall systems made from sustainable materials, to bathrooms and kitchens from international brands like Antoniolupi and Ernestomedo, Design Is MATERIAL showcases the world’s next plateau in material trends, sustainability, architectural and interior systems, and design innovation.
